Drama in the nest! Observed an empty nest this afternoon, but found one little guy (3 days old) in a tangle of vines about a foot from the nest and I gently freed him and returned him to the nest. He was still warm and did not have any obvious injuries. Apparently nest was raided by most likely a grackle and this little guy was dropped. Here's the male feeding the lone survivor - April 14th

The last in-nest feeding I photographed as this little guy is now 10 days old and he was gone on day 11 - April 21

My last photo of this nest, day 10, as the next morning the nest was empty. This guy looked pretty small to fledge, but cardinals leave the nest between 7 - 13 days and at 11 days old he was right on time.
