This battle, part of the Seven Days Campaign and often referred to as the first battle of Cold Harbor was Gen Robert E. Lee's first victory after taking command of the Army of Northern Virginia. This battle took place on June 27th, 1862, resulting in nearly 15,000 casualties on both sides. We demonstrated field maneuvers and weapons firing which were conducted throughout the day. In addition, our camp was open to visitors each day for inspection and questions.

Gettysburg Living History 2006 : The 3rd Virginia Volunteer Infantry was invited for the 18th year to present a Living History encampment and field demonstration at Gettysburg National Park during the weekend of July 15th & 16th. This year the 3rd VA portrayed the original Company B which had brought just 23 men to Gettysburg with only 13 actually taking the field for Pickett's charge that fateful day. Of these 13 men, only one actually returned from the wall with the others either being captured, wounded or killed. It was a very humbling experience for the company as we walked the actual path to the wall that these brave, dedicated and committed men did so many years ago in an effort to protect their families, land and their freedom. May all those who died during this struggle between countrymen rest in peace.

Chippokes State Park Living History 2006 : The 3rd Virginia Volunteer Infantry presented a living history demonstration at Chippokes Plantation State Park located in Surry, VA in August 2006. The 3rd VA portrayed the Surry Light Artillery, Company I. Company I was formed early in the war, shortly after the Confederate victory at 1st Manassas, thus spirits were high. Company I was made up mostly of local farm boys from the area and the 3rd VA demo brought to life the sometimes humorous attempts at training these farm boys in the art of soldiering during this first encampment of this newly formed unit. Not having an artilley piece, the 3rd VA constructed a wooden canon to drill on and it was an interesting event for the 3rd as we tried our hand at artillery. During the demo, various ladies in era attire visited camp with goodies and well wishes for the local boys who were headed off to war.
